MAKING CHANGES FOR APRIL
Just a quickie update on this week, with a few things I thought I’d share – I find it way easier to blog if I’ve actually got something to talk about, rather than trying to find some inspiration alongside a jeans & jumper outfit! The look I’m wearing is actually one of my favourites from the week so far, which is why it’s making an appearance here. I love it when you get an outfit that’s just very ‘you’ – the sort of thing you could wear everyday until you get bored!
So, this week has started the month out pretty well, with a few changes I definitely needed to make for health, happiness and Dolly-Parton-level-of-faaabulous hair.
Hair first. Recent changes have actually involved quitting washing it. I know, ick. Okay, I’ve not gone cold turkey, but for as long as I can remember, I’ve washed my hair everyday. Sometimes, even more than once a day. It’s time consuming and I felt like despite this, it was still always looking greasy.
For the last month or so I’ve gone to only washing my hair every 4-5 days. Aaaand it’s fine. Yeah, it’s 90% shampoo, but it looks and feels like normal – if anything, in better shape. If it does get a bit icky, I’ll wash it, but I haven’t once felt the need to as urgently as when I was washing it all the time. My hair seems less greasy in general, and I don’t feel like it’s getting stripped.
Another update includes investing in hair rollers, which feels a bit retro. I don’t see heated rollers advertised as much these days, but I decided to get some on the quest for lasting curls. I went with the inexpensive Babyliss Thermo Ceramic ones which have worked like a dream – super bouncy, long lasting curls. I’m using these once or twice a week to avoid heat damage, but the rollers give a bit of shape to last a few days anyway.
Kayyyy. It was time to get myself together. Pretty much since buying the house I’ve been on the ‘eat as much food as possible’ mantra. I wasn’t even just having a balanced diet, with treats included – I was treating everyday like an eating competition. And I’m a champ. Lol. But yeah, I’ve been blaming it on a busy life renovating a house, followed by Christmas, followed by not wanting to be that ‘January dieter’… All of a sudden we’re in April and I’m still eating like a hog.
I’ve not gone crazy with the health kick, but I’ve started thinking more about what I’m going to eat and when, going for meal prep during the working weekdays. Another reason has been money… There’s no way I need to be spending 7 quid at M&S (my place of worship) daily, especially when I can spend the same and make myself breakfast and lunches to last me 5 days.
I keep sharing bits & bobs on Instagram stories, so I’ll try keep updates going on there! There’s no weighing myself or measuring involved, I’m just going on how I feel. Ideally, I want to be thinking less about hoisting my gut in on pictures (always bear in mind us bloggers pick the most flattering pictures out of God knows how many!), but the big thing for me is just feeling a little healthier!
Love and Instagram in the same sentence?! I know, I’ve been a real misery about everyone’s favourite picture sharing platform recently, but I think a lot of us had a dip in enthusiasm post algorithm introduction. My little bit of love for Instagram this week has actually come from getting involved more, something I did mention a few posts back. It’s been a good while now, and I’ve loved interacting more – it feels so much better to know I’m replying to people’s comments and questions. I’ve also loved finding other accounts! I don’t follow new accounts that often, but it’s so nice to share some love back and find superrr inspiring people. So yeah, I’m happily liking back and loving seeing more on Instagram!
