MULTI-WEAR BASICS…If I didn’t have a white shirt in my life, I’d probably be stuck for outfits 50% of the time. It’s got to be in the top 10 basics, surely? I’ve gathered a couple over the years, all of which have seen me through different seasons and trends that have come and gone. And this doesn’t just apply to white shirts – I’m also a lover when it comes to stripes, florals and cutesy pastels. Gimme a decent shirt and I know I’ve got a whole load of outfit options.
Which is why I’ve been wearing them a lot on Instagram. I’ll be honest – finding cute outfits to post daily is a struggle! I’m not a stylist and I do run out of ideas, but a good shirt is something to work with… Mainly because you can wear it in different ways. Right now, I’ve got two favourite ways to wear that feel pretty current. I’m loving off the shoulder details and wraparound looks, but you don’t have to go and buy something new to jump on the bandwagon. Here I’m wearing an especially simple style from Fashion Union (it’s actually quite a boxy fit), dressed up for day – evening outfits!
TIED CROPYou know how as teenagers, a school shirt could be tied for a tum-flash, until the teachers caught you? This is basically it, with some shoulder on show too. For this, I just hook my shirt over my shoulders, maybe doing up one button that’d hold things in place, then tie the ends as tight as possible. I get asked a lot about how I don’t flash a nip, but getting things knotted right is a big deal! I wanna be confident that things aren’t going to come undone while I’m out and about.
I love this sort of thing as an alternative to a crop top, especially if I’m after something with long sleeves… This skirt is especially ‘mini’, so it covers me up a little more!
OFF THE SHOULDER TUCKAaaand something extra simple. Really, I’m just doing the essential buttons, tucking in and pulling over my shoulders. With this one, tit tape mayyyy be necessary! I always use the stuff as a back up – getting the shirt tucked in well with a belt should be enough, but a bit of tape acts as reassurance. If all else fails, I’m all for #freethenip. Ha.
I’ve got quite a few shirts I’ve been wearing like this, but I’ve included some of my favourite styles below. I usually find it works best with something more oversized, and in a material that’s a little slouchy… That way you can tie things up comfortably. For similar stuff, there’s plenty on my Instagram!
